Watch cricket highlights - India vs New Zealand, Day 2 highlights, 1st test played at Hamilton on March 19, 2009.
Scoreline: India 278/4. Sachin Tendulkar 70 no, Gautham Gambhir 72, Rahul Dravid 66
A slow day for India when looking at the day’s play over by over, but a calculated performance on the whole. And enough from Tendulkar in the final hour of play to suggest a more aggressive morning session tomorrow in the company of Yuvraj.
Over the last year and a half, the one shot that’s worked for Dravid has been his leaning-forward cover-drive. At times the Australian field-settings had thwarted even that leading to his drop in run-scoring. Today, he hardly got an opportunity to play the shot because of the shortish length bowled - a good half century in decent time coming in the wake of his 136 in his last test vs England
Gambhir got back into run-scoring mode but once again missed out in the 70s. Tendulkar after a brief survey of conditions looked to be keen to play some attacking cricket - this was quickly nipped following a tough dropped catch and he and Laxman slipped into build-a-total mode. The final hour of play however saw Sachin pull out some stunning shots and I definitely will be waking at 3 in the morning to watch the morning session tomorrow.
Pregame: India will resume with Sehwag looking to spank away and add to his 5 boundaries. Whether he does that or not, the middle order with Yuvraj coming in at No 5 is worth the early morning wake-up (for me).
